AFP/PNP to provide security for barangay polls

The Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police will be stepping in and providing security for Commission on Elections personnel detailed in the identified hot spots during the Oct. 29 barangay/SK elections.

COMELEC spokesman Josephus Jimenez said that their primary concern will still be security and the PNP has assured them that the situation will be largely peaceful during the polls.

Nakatanggap na tayo ng security assessment from PNP at mukhang sinasabi nila na magiging peaceful naman ang halalan ngunit syempre alerto pa rin tayo just in case magbago iyon (We have received a security assessment from the PNP and they are saying the elections are going to be peaceful although of course we have to remain alert because the situation could change),” Jimenez said in an interview over DZMM.
