Another Candidate has been slayed

The murder of a Quezon congressional candidate in Quezon City last Saturday has prompted the Philippine National Police (PNP) to intensify its efforts against private armies and illegal firearms

I just don’t know why people is risking their lives just to win a place in the government.? And is it only during this times wth known violence that our PNP is taking the efforts against private armies and illegal firearms? Just a question from a common Election observer.

With power comes money! The more power you have, the more chances to make more money. If you are in government service, you are exposed to more temptations. If you don’t give in you won’t be re-elected or you get killed. I have heard of a cabinet level official in the Philippines that was removed from his position because he did not agree to a kickback scheme. How about the pork barrel accounts? Is there an accounting of the pork barrel given to the congressmen and senators? Scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours. Even US congressmen (ex. Randy Duke Cunningham)are tempted with kickbacks and bribes. The Philippines was in the news recently about being the most corrupt in Asia. Try getting anything done at any governement office, you’ll need connections or have to give lagay to expedite things. Go to any post office, the employees makes you feel like you are a bother. Is it an excuse that you are not getting paid enough to give poor service?

Well said , Juan De La Cruz. I wonder how this scenario might chage. All what you have mentioned is what is happening for decades.

” Is it an excuse that you are not getting paid enough to give poor service? “

I don’t think so. They should not go into politics if what they are looking is salary..
