Due to continued increase in the price of  sugar, the price of loaf of bread will also increase by P2 while the pan de sal will increase by P1. Some bakeries have the option of increasing the price or decreasing the size.
"Some of  our community bakery-members have started their price adjustments this week to cope with the spiraling cost of ingredients particularly sugar," said Leonardo Figueroa of the Philippine Federation of Bakers Association Inc.

Bakers could only hope for the stability of the price of flour.

100 soldiers has been provided by the PNP to about 50 candidates in the coming 2010 May elections according to Armed Forces public affairs office chief Lt. Col. Romeo Brawner.
“As of January 31, the Comelec has approved the applications of 50 candidates who are to be provided with AFP security. That’s according to our Task Force HOPE (Honest Orderly and Peaceful Elections),” Brawner said in an interview.

More soldiers are expected to be deployed to other candidates who requested for bodyguards. A min.imum of two soldiers are allowed for each candidate

Five kilograms of cocaine were concealed in 10 packs of cookies were smelled by Colombian sniffer dogs and seized by the Colombian police last Saturday. These cocaine stuffed cookies are supposed to be shipped to Barcelona.
Not your average biscuit, "the cream was taken out of the cookies and replaced with compressed bleached cocaine to avoid suspicion from counternarcotics units," it added.

According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, Colombia is the world’s biggest producer of cocaine.

Pictures of drinking, grinning doctors and holding guns from Puerto Rico were posted on the facebook accounts of these doctors who were supposed to be doing humanitarian mission to aid Haitian earthquake victims. An investigation on this matter will be launched whether these doctors will be disciplined. Their Puerto Rican Secretary of Health Lorenzo Gonzalez was saddened by this.

Toyota Files Voluntary Safety Recall on Select Toyota Division Vehicles for Sticking Accelerator Pedal

Toyota has said in their website that they announced it would recall approximately 2.3 million vehicles to correct sticking accelerator pedals on specific Toyota Division models ( Source : Toyota.com ).

This action is separate from the on-going recall of approximately 4.2 million Toyota and Lexus vehicles to reduce the risk of pedal entrapment by incorrect or out of place accessory floor mats. Approximately 1.7 million Toyota Division vehicles are subject to both separate recall actions.
Toyota’s accelerator pedal recall is confined to the following Toyota Division vehicles:
• 2009-2010 RAV4,
• 2009-2010 Corolla,
• 2009-2010 Matrix,
• 2005-2010 Avalon,

Liberty Telecom Holding Inc. is set to launch its WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability  for Microwave Access) in the Philippines after 2 month free trial in the Philippines.
Liberty is expecting its WiMAX and Internet broadband services to bring the company back to profitability, as these are seen to account for more than 90% of its sales and subscriber base.

WiMAX can provide 33% faster speed which is up to 1Mbps compared to other commercially available WiFi Services. It is a cost-efficient alternative to cable and digital subscribe line or DSL .

According to the famous folk singer Freddie Aguilar, he is convincing  his younger sister Marlene Aguilar-Pollard to surrender her son Jason Ivler to the authorities. Jason is the prime suspect in the killing of Renato Victor Ebarle, Jr., son of Malacañang official Renato Victor Ebarle, Sr. over a traffic altercation in November last year.
“Sabi ko no’n kay Marlene na isuko na niya si Jason dahil mas madali ang gano’n kaysa naman sa nangyari sa pamangkin ko. Kaya lang, hindi niya ako sinunod. Ngayon, ganyan ang nangyari."

A Chocolate theme park is about to open in Beijing, China next week, January 29. The “chocolate wonderland” has a size of 20,000-square-meter. Final touches are being done on this chocolate theme park on the Olympic Green near the Bird’s Nest Stadium. It has the life size replicas of the Terracotta Warriors and a section of the Great Wall.

Roger Federer, the world’s top-ranked tennis player, will take part in an exhibition event in Australia on Sunday together with the other top stars like Serena Williams, Rafael Nadal, Andy Roddick, Kim Clijsters and Samantha Stosur. They venue will be at Melbourne Park in the state of Victoria’s capital city.
Federer organized this charity event to raise funds for the Haiti earthquake victims.

The fire in Baseco Compound at Port Area, Manila started at around 9 pm Saturday night. Since most of the houses in this area are made of wood, the fire quickly spread through the place destroying around 500 houses and over 1000 families lost their homes.  The fire was put out at 11:00 pm by the firefighters. The 2 injured people were immediately taken to the hospital.
