Thinking about Philippine I must say that I still believe in our Judicial System. Although our Judicial System is a bit slow compared to other such as Atlantic Law ( This is just speculation ) or other law around the globe ( this is just what I am seeing in the Television ) . What I don’t like in our Judicial system is when I am hearing that there are poor people being on trial. You can always see on television that when the people on trial is poor it takes them long time just to resolve a case, But if the person concern is a known or rich person rest assured that there will be hearing everyday and not monthly like what they are doing with poor people. What if somebody from Atlantic Law will stand for those poor people will it make a difference? Well I also don”t know even those lawyers from Atlantic Law are internationally known they cannot change it. Not unless somebody in the Opposition hired them to do so . Again above post is just my assumption based on media. If somebody have different experience. Speak out.

The Filipinos after 38 days from E-day is still waiting for the 12th slot in Senate. There is still a chance for Zubiri to be in and defeat Pimentel.

Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III

Genuine Opposition (GO) candidate Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III said he was filing in the Supreme Court on Wednesday a petition to stop the Commission on Elections from canvassing disputed vote tallies from Maguindanao, which could push Juan Miguel Zubiri of Team Unity (TU) past him in their battle for the last Senate slot.

Miguel Zubiri

Zubiri has been urging the Comelec to go ahead with the tabulation of the Maguindanao votes.

TU lawyer Romulo Macalintal said his clients would join the Abalos trip and thus end the controversy plaguing the Maguindanao voting results.”TU is ready to go there and see for itself the proof that elections were held in Maguindanao, based on the documents that the election officers are said to present,” he said.

The Comelec

The comelec is also doing their part by going to to General Santos City of a three-man Comelec panel led by Chair
Benjamin Abalos for a meeting with Maguindanao poll officials on alleged vote fraud in the province during the May 14 elections.

Instead of going directly to Maguindanao, the Comelec panel has decided to meet with the province’s 22 election officers and their provincial supervisor, Lintang Bedol, in General Santos City.

My Opinion

To the Comelec do your part as soon as possible so that your institution will not be in question by any parties. I just wonder why did the Comelec only act now, The votes from Maguindanao has been in question for almost a month now after they deliver a 12-0 votes. All investigation should already be done before and not only now.

What about you? Who do you want to win is it Juan Miguel Zubiri or Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III. Do you believe that there is really a question a Maguindanao Votes?

The electoral victory of a senatoriable who hardly had political ads on tv prompted a number of people commenting how the Filipino voters have become more intelligent in choosing their leaders. If the Filipino electorates have indeed become more intelligent, it is a much welcomed development. However, we have all been witnesses to what the Philippine election remains to be—dirty and voters easily swayed by vote buying as cheap as 100 pesos. There are ways, though, on how we can see the fulfillment of having wiser and more intelligent electorates. Here are some ways that I can think of:

Let our educational system provide our younger generation with teachings on the importance of suffrage. Education is most useful to teach future electorates the importance of voting. A number of first time voters, for example, have failed to practice their suffrage because they do not see the importance of their votes. Providing them with ideal standards in choosing for a leader will also help them effectively assess who among the election candidates are worth choosing for. When our educational system teaches our students the importance of voting for a candidate with high moral standards, concern to the environment, and the ability to execute or legislate laws, for example, then we might be able to foster future electorates to vote based on their own research, evaluation on particular candidates and conscience.

Government leaders should be encouraged to lead the way of having high morals during elections. The reason why many Filipinos fail to become wise voters is that a number of our elected and even appointed officials do not have high morals when running for and even sitting in public office. Why would voters be tempted to sell their votes? Because there are politicians and even public officials offering to buy people’s votes. Imagine having Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez offering P10,000 to every barangay captain in IloIlo if they can deliver a 12-0 victory for the TU party. Is the offer not an attempt to buy the votes of the ilonggos? Some senatoriables did not even follow simple election rules. As of the first week of May, the Pera’t Pulitika Working Group findings has reported that Manny Villar already spent P138 Million in campaign expenses when a senatoriable is allowed to spend only about P135 million. In Marawi City, it was also reported that sample ballots come with money. Are politicians in Marawi not responsible for this? Our electorates can become wiser if our public officials are not as shrewd and corrupt as many of them are.

I hope that the time when Filipino voters become wiser will come soon. By then, we can say to Filipino critics that “we are an intelligent people who choose our leaders wisely and with conscience.

I would like to put my views regarding the post made by Janette Toral in Sunstar.com.ph regarding the 2007 election and Blogging and thanks to Rhodilee for the tip

” Duplicate information. A lot of the blogs had the same information “

I think this blog is one of them because most of the blog post that I made are based on the blogs, News, e-Groups of different people who had direct knowledge on what is going on their particular location. As a web researcher I need a site wherein I can get some valuable information in one site alone to save time in browsing and that is the main objective of this blog.

” Localized coverage. There was not much information on representatives and local officials. This is one area where we could do a lot of improvement and, perhaps, groups, who are into a transparent and full coverage of the elections, especially the media networks, should heavily invest in this for the 2010. This can be a form of citizen or barangay “

Janette’s observation on this area is really true, since for me, I have a very little information about the local candidates. Even on my own town I were not able to find the complete list of candidates. I think the comelec should post this candidate for us to be able to know who are they. And then we can search who they are and what

” Bloggers’ accreditation. Perhaps the Commission on Elections and political parties should seriously consider accrediting bloggers for more coverage for the 2010 elections or at least, open it to those who are determined to participate and document the process. “

If this happen I would love to be part of it.

” Although, there is no means of stopping any blogger from writing anything about the elections in the blog. The 2010 elections will see the serious level of participation of bloggers. “

Even if I would not be accredited, of course it will not stop me on blogging about the next 2010 election. But maybe this time I will start earlier, this blog covers the election since Dec. 2006 and I believe the information was not yet sufficient. I was not able to put profile of all the senatoriables. I was only focus to the Big Party that participated in this election. ( GO,TU,Kapatiran )

In my total assessment Janette is right about the lack of resources by the Comelec. Since if you will check COMELEC Website it will give you more information about the past election and not the information regarding the present election. I also agree with Janette that if there will be a group of bloggers that will really focus on 2010 election, The training and concept should be formulated as early as this year.

This is a question which is really in discussion for a long time. Recently it has been reported by Yuga that Band of Bloggers was included in Kiko caravan as posted on his blog.

……We were there as part of the media entourage that will cover the 3-day trip……

We were amongst other giants in mainstream media — ABS CBN, GMA 7, Phil. Daily Inquirer among other scores of local print and broadcast journalist. It was a bit weird whenever one of the photographers or cameramen would ask me which station or TV network we belong and I’d answer “oh, we belong to a new local blog network”. And yes, we were treated like any other rep of a media outfit, getting full access to the personalities (politicians and showbiz alike) and the best seats to take photos and videos.

Does it mean BOB can now be called also a Journalist. Mimic blog about the Bloggers as a Journalist.

Are bloggers journalists? If you’re a blogger and you engage in journalism in your blog, then you’re a journalist. This is how, at least, it is seen with this bill introduced by Representative Rick Boucher (D-VA).

On my own opinion I think bloggers is not a journalist..They are called ” bloggers “..They have their own identity as a blogger. A blogger could right what he wants , his opinion without any restriction but a journalist could not write something without passing through his editor. Anyway this is how I understand it. If somebody could give a good comparison in between the two, it is much appreciated.

If you want to be updated on the local election news regarding the election in Northern part of the Philippines you should visit ” Northern Philippine Times ” for the updates in different things which relates to election.

And if you want to get in touch on what is happening with Namfrel visit them at their site. The latest post involves NAMFREL drops SMS, goes back to ‘old school’ tabulation which they believe that they were not successful in using SMS last 2004 so they have to go to Fax and Email.

MANILA, Philippines — After experiencing difficulties in using short-messaging system (SMS) in tabulating the results of the 2004 Presidential elections, the National Movement for Free Elections (NAMREL) is going back to using e-mail, fax and courier service in collecting copies of election returns for the upcoming May 14 general elections.

We also have to expect for the new website of Namfrel which will be up and working with in next week and ready for election as per their report.

Do you want to know what do young Filipinos think on whom to vote if they will be allowed to vote at a you age check it here .

Felix Muga, Mathematics Department of Ateneo de Manila University has written again some note regarding the Party List system which could be found in bulatlat.com with at title of ” On the Contradiction of the Party-List System Act (RA 7941) to the Principle of Proportional Representation “

Republic Act 7941 or commonly as the Philippine Party-List System Act declares that the State shall promote proportional representation in the election of members in the House of Representatives through a party-list system…But the manner of allocation of seats by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) negates the principle of proportional representation.

Did you know that Gringo Honasan meets with GMA as posted on his blog.

Former senator Gregorio “Gringo” Honasan, an accused coup plotter who is running for the Senate anew in the May 14 elections, met with President Arroyo the other night – the first time in years he had set foot in the Palace. A top Malacañang official said Honasan was accompanied by a “mutual friend” at around 9:30 p.m. Thursday. “The President and Honasan spoke for about 50 minutes to an hour,” the official told The STAR without giving further details.

Hhhmmmm.. Only both of them knew what they talk about and I hope it is for the benefit of the country specially now that Gringo is going in the Magic 12 of the Surveys.

And if you want to know what is happening in Sorsogon you might as well visit JUN DELGADO site which give some information on what is happening on their place.
