CCTV cameras were installed in selected loading and unloading bays in EDSA and this include Alabang, Baclaran, Fairview and Malabon as a test, this was according to MMDA Traffic Operations Center Executive Director Angelito Vergel de Dios. This is to prevent passenger buses to overstay at the platforms.

MMDA Chairman Bayani Fernando said the CCTV will be fitted with timers to ensure that bus drivers do not stay for too long in a particular loading and unloading station, aggravating traffic problems in the main thoroughfare.

“Through this, traffic enforcers won’t be the one to warn you. The camera will just take footage,” Fernando said warning bus drivers to obey traffic rules and regulations to prevent apprehension.

The passenger buses are only allowed 15 minutes to load and unload passengers in the loading and unloading bays.

The installation of the cameras is part of the MMDA’ Enhanced Organized Bus Route (OBR) program which will be pilot-tested on July 25 to ensure better traffic management for the metropolis’ congested roadways.

Trained personnel  will man the terminals. OBR violation has a fine of Php 1000 De Dios said.
