Comelec received a threat call for the first time
A male person called the Comelec’s hotline at around 9:55 am, Wednesday morning. The caller talked about a certain “Mirriam”. Officials assume that the caller is possibly talking about Mirriam Defensor Santiago as she was then disqualified as reelectionist.
"But I don’t see how this is connected with the disqualification case [against Santiago]," Jimenez said.
Virginia Bayer, an employee of the poll body’s Education and Information Department (EID), said that a male caller called the Comelec hotline at around 9:55 a.m. He angrily told Bayer that a bomb was planted at the 3rd floor of the building, as "protesta para kay Miriam," then immediately hung up.
The PNP and comelec security searched the floor and found no signs of bomb, at 11 am the bomb threat was dismissed.
They were not able to trace the origin of the call because the building has no caller ID or other security measures. CCTV cameras and K9 dogs are place in the commissioners’s office and the law department which is found inthe Palacio del Gobernador building.
Jimenez said that this first time threat will be taken seriously by the Comelec.
