The Commission on Elections postponed Monday voting in Pantar, Lanao del Norte after receiving reports of missing ballot boxes in the area.

COMELEC Chairman Benjamin Abalos said date of resumption of the elections in the province will be announced soon. He clarified that the elections were merely postponed and there was no failure of elections.

Abalos said Valencia City in Bukidnon province was placed under COMELEC control. He said Eastern Visayas officials have requested for augmentation forces in the region.

He added that there were no untoward incidents reported in Western and Central Visayas. An ABS-CBN report earlier said voting was delayed in Marawi City, Lanao del Sur due to late distribution of election paraphernalia.

A crowd of teachers was seen at the Marawi City Hall around 8 a.m. because of the confusion caused by the late distribution of election paraphernalia.

Polling precincts nationwide were supposed to open at 7 a.m.

Residents, however, downplayed the incident, adding that voting in Marawi City usually starts two hours late in past elections.
