Erap will visit Malacañang
Former President Joseph Estrada is about to return to Malacañang after almost nine years that he has been ousted. Erap, as what Estrada is popularly known has been invited by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo to attend the meeting of the full National Security Council (NSC) on Tuesday. Erap said he accepted the invitation of President Arroyo that was sent to him last Friday night disregarding what the motives of the president Arroyo may be. He just wants to participate on the discussions of national concerns.
In the said meeting they will be discussing about the May elections, dismantling of private armies, and the campaign to recover loose firearms.
Erap said he misses his activities at the Palace.
He said becoming a president is “destiny,” and he believes he is “destined” for a comeback in the May 2010 presidential elections.
Senator Benigno Aquino III and Manny Villar is still ahead in the surveys of the SWS or the Social Weather Stations last month.
Estrada was not able to attend the 2005 NSC meeting since he was still detained on plunder charges at the time. After being convicted September 2007, few weeks after he was pardoned and was restored of his civil and political rights.
“This (full meeting of the NSC) has not happened since 2005 for reasons probably many of you understand. We have been beset by conflicts, debates politically,” Gonzales said.
An NSC official told the religious and military leaders that the success of the May elections is crucial to the country’s political and economic stability in 2010, while its failure could trigger unrest.
