Fatalities of Sunken ferry recovered, 2 claimed by relatives
The two bodies of the fatalities of a sunken passenger ferry in the Province of Cavite that has been recovered by the PCG (Philippine Coast Guard) have been claimed by their relatives. The relatives accepted the fate of their relatives but they look forward to seeing their other relatives who are still missing.
The ferry sank 228 feet into the waters off Limbones Island in Cavite hours before Christmas Eve.
Only American diver Matthew Caldwell, who has his own diving gears and equipment, was able to go that deep. Caldwell is a member of the PCG auxiliary.
"The Coast Guard is not equipped with technical divers so to speak," admitted Commodore Luis Tuason, PCG NCR district commander.
According to PCG, Caldwell saw 12 bodies floating inside the ferry. Three of which were confirmed dead, aside from the 2 claimed. 24 passengers are missing while 46 survived.
