Former President Corazon Aquino has been diagnosed of colon cancer since March 2008 and died of cardio-respiratory  arrest at 3:18 am, Saturday, August 1, 2009. She is the mother of Senator Noynoy Aquino and Kris Aquino.

It has been said that the present President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo has announced a 10-day mourning period for the former president Corazon Aquino according to Ray Donato, the country’s consul-general in Atlanta.

It has been said that Filipinos lost their democracy icon, “People Power” icon, after the death of former president Corazon Aquino. She will always be part of the lives of every Filipino people because of what she did for the success of the People Power revolution in 1986.

Her family stayed with her in the last minutes of her life. According to Boy Abunda, she died peacefully.
