GO 10-point economic program

20 March 2007 2 Comments

The Genuine Opposition announced its official economic platform which includes more job generation, cheaper power and medicines and no new taxes.

GO also vowed to block any attempt to amend the Constitution by whatever mode.

Based on its platform, GO will sponsor and support legislative initiatives that would:

  1. generate more jobs through labor-intensive infrastructure projects in the rural areas;
  2. increase budgetary allocations for education at all levels;
  3. substantially lower the cost of medicines;
  4. lower the costs of transportation and power through the development of domestic sources of renewable energy;
  5. reject any new tax and improve tax administration;
  6. grant prosecutorial powers to the Commission on Human Rights and de-emphasize the heavily militarist approach in counter-insurgency;
  7. contribute to the arrest of global warming;
  8. organize additional support programs for overseas Filipino workers;
  9. reinforce the role of the press as watchdog against graft and corruption by decriminalizing libel and increasing penalties for harm done to news persons;
  10. and institute other meaningful economic reforms.

    I encourage voters who are affected by the GSIS decision to stop giving regular survivor’s benefits since February 2007 to elect to the senate candidates who are advocates of senior citizen/elderly welfare and who can stand up to the whims of GM Garcia. Kailangan ng boses nila sa senado. Bakit bigla na lang ipapatigil ang mga pension? Dahil daw mauubos na ang pera ng GSIS if they don’t cleanse their database first. Ows? I think we deserve transaparency and a better explanation. I don’t like to think that it’s because election is just around the corner.

    Let’s hope that the GSIS Fund will not be used for election fund. Let’s be watchful.
