The Philippine Army said that 4 members of the NPA or the New People’s army were killed in separate encounters with the government troops in Quezon and Sorsogon over the weekend.

The first firefight happened at Sitio Polo in Barangay Olongtao Ibaba in Macalelon town in Quezon early morning of Saturday. This was according to Lt. Frank Sayson of the Army’s 2nd Infantry Division. The two alleged rebels killed in this encounter identified as Ian “Danoy” Maderazo, 26, and certain Marlon Peñahermoso.

Sayson said that Ka Danoy had been a “White Area” operator or a recruiter of student-activists in UP Los Baños. He is reportedly also the secretary of NPA Damlay, reportedly a local NPA unit in Quezon.

Another encounter happened in Barangay Ginanangra in Magallanes town in Sorsogon and there were two fatalities on the rebel side. The rebels withdrew and left their two dead comrades.
