Some drinking doctors during Haiti Mission
Pictures of drinking, grinning doctors and holding guns from Puerto Rico were posted on the facebook accounts of these doctors who were supposed to be doing humanitarian mission to aid Haitian earthquake victims. An investigation on this matter will be launched whether these doctors will be disciplined. Their Puerto Rican Secretary of Health Lorenzo Gonzalez was saddened by this.
"The poor judgment of a few basically damages the beautiful effort that many others have put in place in terms of providing good medical care," Gonzalez said. "When I saw the pictures, I was very concerned that they have taken pictures of people without any consent."
Other pictures show doctors holding bottles of scotch, doctors smiling while toasting each other, pictures that show grinning doctors while attending to their patients, a quake victim on a hospital bed naked from waist down except for a thin strip of cloth covering the genitals.
"You can’t ever take pictures of patients if you don’t have a written agreement and much less publish photos of patients half-nude," the president of the College of Physicians and Surgeons told CNN. Dr. Eduardo Ibarra added, "This is a clear violation of the Hippocratic Oath … We’re going to take all the measures possible to correct this."
The doctors involved with this bad actions will be investigated regarding this matter and actions will be taken care of, though others have already suffered and lost their jobs. The soldiers should also be investigated for allowing the doctors to post with their guns.
One of the doctors regret what they did and said the pictures were intended as nothing more than a reminder of their work, and that soldiers had handed them their weapons to hold while posing.
