The World Dragon Boat Race Championships will be held in Czech Republic this coming August and the good news is the Philippine national men’s dragon boat team is going to join this championship to defend their title.

They are having hard time raising fund for their trip to Czech Republic because according to them they need Php 150, 000 for each member of the team. They have to send at least 23 members there. Good thing the Philippine Sports Commission chairman Harry Angping said that they will be providing the funds for the team in going to Czech Republic.

The said 9th World Dragon Boat Race Championships will be held in Prague, the capital of Czech from August 26 to 30 , 2009.

The team won the last championship last 2007. They won over Britain, Australia and United States.

"We brought ‘yong mga de latas (canned goods) para sa daily food nila, tapos five kilos of rice per athlete" related Judith Hakim of their Australia experience. Hakim is the secretary-general of the Philippine Dragon Boat Federation.

"Para makatipid rin sa transportation and lodging namin, super near the race site. So going to the race site, ‘yon na ‘yong warm-up nila kasi they have to run," she added.

The RP team needs more financial support up to this moment. They serve as inspiration to our other athletes for their hardwork and determination to win and be the pride of our country.
