Well I received lots of email from other ofw regarding the alleged 15% tax on all money to be sent thru Western Union or Cebuana Lhuillier, and others. Well I just called Western Union and they have informed me, that it is not 15% but 0.15% and they call it documentary Tax. Theyt will start implementing it on May,2008.

BUOYED by strong remittances from overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), export receipts and foreign investments, the country enjoyed a dollar surplus in the first two months of the year, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) said Monday.
BSP Governor Amando M. Tetangco Jr. said the country’s balance of payments (BOP) at end-February registered a surplus of $1.257 billion, lower than the $1.285-billion surplus in the same period last year.

INQUIRER.net DUBAI – Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo launched here on 27 January a hedging program of the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) to protect the earnings of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) against fluctuations in foreign exchange rates, particularly in the strong peso.

Philippine consul general to Jeddah Ezzedin Tago met with representatives of Filipino communities Friday to establish close partnership for effective consular services.

The peso is expected to sustain its strength in 2008 due to hefty dollar inflows from overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and the general weakness of the dollar, Banco de Oro (BDO) said in a report.
