Filipino boxers will have their world fights abroad this coming Saturday which is Sunday in Manila.
The first one is the World Boxing Organization minimum weight champion Donnie “Ahas” Nietes will fight against Mexican Manuel Vargas. Nietes  will face Vargas at El Palenque de la Feria, Nayarit, Mexico.
"I think the fight will go 12 rounds because Vargas is also good so I’m prepared for that. But if there is an opportunity to knock him out and finish the fight, I will grab the opportunity," Nietes said.

The Ateneo Blue Eagles won over The Far Eastern University Tamaraws with the final score of 74-73 in the 72nd UAAP men’s basketball on Saturday at the Araneta Coliseum.
The Ateneo Blue Eagles(13-1) rank 1st in the elimination round, FEU (11-3) rank 2nd, UE warriors (10-4) ranked 3rd and UST Growling Tigers (6-8) rank 4th.
The Eagles will fight against the Tigers on Sunday next week while FEU and UE will face one another on Saturday.

Adamson University Falcons won over University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons in the 72nd UAAP men’s basketball on Saturday with the score of 74-61. Adamson ended with the slate of 5-9. The fifth ranked team will play in the Cebu leg while the sixth placer will joust in the Naga leg of the PCCL’s wildcard series for a slot in the Sweet 16.
The UP Fighting Maroons, on the other hand, duplicated their 3-11 record last season.

This German Tandem defeated Ronnie Alcano and Dennis Orcullo, Philippines’ team A in the semi-finals. The PartyCasino.net World Cup of Pool champions won over the Chinese Li Hewen and Fu Jianbo in the semi-finals. The said event was held at the M North EDSA in Quezon City.

M,asters in billiards Efren “Bata” Reyes and Franciscon “Django” Bustamante made it to the semifinal round of the 2009 PartyCasino.net World Cup of Pool by Team England at the SM Edsa on Saturday. Reyes and Bustamante of Team B won over England’s Imran Majid and World 10-Ball Champion Darren Appleton with the score of 9 to 1 in their quarterfinals matchup.
The two legends’ next match will be Chinese Li Hewen and Fu Jianbo.

The Far Eastern University (FEU) won over De La Salle Universty (DLSU) in the 72nd UAAP men’s basketball at the FilOil Flying V Arena on Saturday with the overtime score of 71-69.
FEU now has 11 win and 2 losses while DLSU has 5 wins and 8 losses. With this slate of DLSU, they are now one and a half game behind UST.
“Motivated ang mga bata since twice kaming tinalo ng La Salle last season including sa Final Four.  I’m happy we clinched the twice-to-beat advantage,” said FEU coach Glenn Capacio.

The new pride of the Philippines, 19 year-old Marvin Sonsona won over Jose Lopez of Puerto Rico, this Friday (Saturday in Manila). He won the World Boxing Organization (WBO) super flyweight title at the Casino Rama in Ontario, Canada. The scores were 116-109, 115-110, 114-111, all in favor of Sonsona.
“Lopez was such a tough fighter, and winning a decision against him shows that I’m a real fighter, and a worthy champion,” the hard-punching Sonsona said shortly after winning the fight.

In the 72nd UAAP men’s basketball which was held in the FilOil Flying V Arena, the UE (University of the Philippines) Warriors won over NU (National University) Bulldogs on Saturday. With the UE having the score of 70 and NU having the score of 58. The UE  starlayer Paul lee made up for their losses according to their coach Lawrence Chongson. Lee made 6 rebounds and 3 assists. This is the NU’s 6th straight loss.

The Philippine team won a total of 74 medals in the recently held ASEAN Para Games which was held in Malaysia from August 15-19. This ASEAN Para Games is known as the parallel sports event for the disabled. This event is being held after every SEA games or Southeast Asian Games.
The Philippine team had a total of 24 gold, 24 silver medals and 26 bronze. The medals were won the the chess, swimming, athletics and other events.
